NEWSLETTER

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

Sunday 21st July 2024

Please contact the parish to receive the newsletter by email each week.

Message from Canon Kristian

Dear brothers and sisters
The last couple of days has reminded us that we are in the height of summer!  Our children and young people are coming to the end of the school term, and there will be the usual comings and goings – our parishioners going away on holiday or family visits and people from elsewhere coming to spend some time in our beautiful part of the country.  It is always a joy to welcome those visiting our area when they come to celebrate Mass with us in church.
A major step forward took place this week with regards to the rebuilding of St James.  The Diocesan Trustees approved the appointment of Culmex, a local building firm in Tiverton, as the main contractor for the project.  I am delighted that a local builder has been appointed following the tendering process.  Not only is this good for the local economy, but it will be an important connection between the new building and the local community.  Once the necessary paperwork has been signed, we will have a more definite idea of when the work will start and we will be required to transfer temporarily to St Andrew’s.  At this stage, it looks as if this will be around mid-to-late September.
The floor fitters completed their work in St Boniface this week, following the delay caused by the unexpected necessity to replace the floor joists and floorboards in part of the church.  The wooden floor in the main body of the church and the deep red carpet of the sanctuary are looking splendid.  However, the church is now in need of a really good clean, so I will be trying to organise a time for a gang of us to give the church a “summer clean”!
Along with the Newsletter, I attach:
  • the weekly guide to a prayerful reading of the Sunday Gospel, offered by Monika Manser
  • no 124 of Inspire from Deacon Peter
  • the latest newsletter from the Lighthouse Cafe and Bookshop in Tiverton
  • the application form for the Sacrament of Confirmation
A reminder that tomorrow at St James we have the Adult Formation Day from 10.30am-4.00pm, organised by the Parish Pastoral Council, with the theme “Risk, Adventure, Vocation” and with input from two visiting speakers, Fr Michael Barrow SJ and Revd Jane Frost.  It will be great to see many of you there.  For our youngsters, the fortnightly Youth Club will be taking place at St Boniface Hall from 11.00am-12.30pm.
As always, let us keep those who are sick in our community in our prayers.
God bless
Canon Kristian
